Rules
Solitaire is a classic single-player card game that is played with a standard 52-card deck. The objective of the game is to move all the cards to the four foundation piles, sorted by suit and in ascending order from Ace to King. The game has several variations, but the standard rules are as follows:
Setup:
- Shuffle the deck and deal out seven piles of cards, with each pile having one more card than the previous one. The first pile should have one card face up, the second pile should have two cards, with the second card face up, and so on. The seventh pile should have seven cards, with the top card face up.
- Place the remaining cards in a stock pile, face down. Turn the top card of the stock pile over and place it next to the stock pile to start the discard pile.
Gameplay:
- Move cards from the seven piles and the discard pile to the foundation piles as follows:
- The foundation piles are built up in suit from Ace to King.
- Any Ace that is face up can be moved to a foundation pile. Once an Ace is played to a foundation pile, all subsequent cards of the same suit can be added to that pile in ascending order, ending with the King.
- Cards in the seven piles can be moved to another pile or to the foundation piles according to the following rules:
- A face-up card can be moved to a foundation pile if it is of the same suit and one rank higher than the top card on the foundation pile.
- A face-up card can be moved to another pile if it is of the opposite color and one rank lower than the top card of the pile it is being moved to.
- A group of face-up cards can be moved to another pile if they are in descending order and of the same suit, and the card at the bottom of the group is one rank lower than the top card of the pile it is being moved to.
- When a face-down card is revealed by moving the top card of a pile, it is turned face up.
- When a pile becomes empty, a King can be moved to it from another pile or the discard pile.
- You can turn over the top card of the stock pile at any time and add it to the discard pile. You can then use the top card of the discard pile to move to the foundation piles or to one of the seven piles.
Winning:
- The game is won when all cards are moved to the foundation piles, sorted by suit and in ascending order from Ace to King.
Losing:
- The game is lost when there are no more moves available, and you cannot move any more cards to the foundation piles or between the seven piles.
